Thiksey Gompa (17Kms from Leh) |

It lies enroute to Hemis Gompa. The Thiksey monastery provides a panoramic view of the Indus valley from its vantage point atop a hill. There are several temples and wall paintings of the Buddha. Close by is the summer palace of the old Raja of Leh. This monastery is 800 years old with statues made of silver and gold. |

This monastery has a large 7.5 m copper statue of Buddha plated with gold. It celebrates its annual festival on the 30th day of the 1st month of the Tibetan Buddhist calendar. |

This has been the Royal Palace since the King was dethroned by the Dogras. Current royal family lives in Stok Palace. The museum at this place has a huge collection of ornaments related to royal family, traditional clothing and a huge collection of thankas. |

The biggest monastry in Ladakh bulit in 1630. It is not visible from the road as it is located in a side valley. |
